She didn’t hear the crack but knew that something was not right.  On her way to score her second goal in the first half of the soccer game, she broke her arm.  Plans to try out for the travel soccer team, a week of horse camp, a summer of swimming all vanished with one fall.

Yet, her attitude has been amazing.  She wowed the doctors in the operating room with her questions and confident calm; she decided to give some of her money originally saved for horse camp  to a non-kill animal shelter down the road; she is anxiously awaiting the day when she can again write and draw and continue working on the story that she wants published. In the meantime, she has picked up a few different books to read including Oliver Twist and Little Women.  She is 12.

No anger. No frustration, and really no realization of how challenging having a cast on during the summer can be. She is not hitting the steering wheel with her head because of the detour sign up ahead.  She is enjoying the NEW view along the way.

What detours have you recently encountered?

A loss of a job, or a relationship?

An illness or injury?

A drop in sales or team volume?

On the positive, a detour may include a new promotion, a new move, a new child,  or an incredible relationship.

Remember that your recent detour is not a dead end but a chance for you to do something different.

Detours are opportunities for new jobs, new adventures, new relationships.  Having a newly diagnosed injury or illness can be terrifying but how can you use it to touch someone else’s life or to open up a door once closed?

Your expectations during any detour will determine your enjoyment, or lack of it, and the outcome every time.

As a small business owner or independent distributor, supporting locally owned businesses just makes sense. You are one of them!

Below are ten reasons to support locally owned businesses in your community. Have more?  Please, do share!

1.  Keep Dollars Local -  For every $100 spent at a locally owned business, $45.00 stays in the local economy supporting local jobs for your neighbor and friends.  For every $100 spent at a national chain or franchise store, only $14.00 stays in the community.

2.  Embrace the Uniqueness of Local - Shop at those one- of- a- kind boutiques where we connect over coffee or share a story with a neighbor.  Many of these shops offer items not found anywhere else and certainly not made in another country.

3.  Foster Local Job Creation - Locally owned businesses create more jobs and in some cases, better wages for those in your community.

4.  Help the Environment - Many of these local businesses are within walking, or biking, distance of the downtown area.  Many also see the benefits of recycling and keeping their town clean and the landfill empty.

5.  Nurture Community - Studies have found that independent businesses are owned by people living in the community and who are committed to investing in the community through donations or charitable causes.  They know it takes a "village to raise a community".

6.  Conserve your Tax Dollars - Small neighborhood or "work from home" businesses require less public infrastructure. They often operate from existing buildings or homes,  and make the best use of their space without creating the need for bigger and better.

7.  Have More Choices - With local business and work from home distributors, the customer is offered more choices, innovation and competition with lower prices over the long run.  The products are based on need and desire not national sales averages.

8.  Benefit from Local Owners' Expertise -  Small business owners or work from home entrepreneurs often possess a level of expertise and passion for the products they sell.  They have a greater interest in getting to know their customers who are, in fact, their neighbors.  There is special price in their trade and the knowledge they offer.

9.  Preserve Entrepreneurship -  Entrepreneurship fuels America's economic innovation and prosperity and serves as the key means for families to move out of low-wage jobs and into the middle and upper class.  People can choose their own path and that is an inspiration to those in the community!

10.  A Special Relationship with Your Clients - Just like the theme song from
"Cheers",  a place "where everyone knows your name"!  Customers are treated like friends, because they are!

"From all sides we heard, 'it is foolish to be a dreamer,' and that our ideas were 'impractical, stupid, naive, or foolish', that you have 'got to have money to go places,' that 'luck determines who gets ahead or you've got to have important friends,' or you're 'too old or too young.'"  The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz, phD

As a result of being bombarded by this "you-can't-get-ahead-so-don't-bother-to-try" mindset, many people have given up on life and their dreams. The three groups that Mr. Schwartz listed include those that have totally given up and convince themselves that they are truly satisfied in their jobs and happy with their unhappy marriages. These people have rationalized themselves into a rut.

Another group enters life with some hope of fulfilling their dreams and achieving success. So they work, they plan and after a number of years and lots of resistance and being laughed at, they resign themselves to stay right where they are.  They become afraid.  Instead of plugging their nose and jumping in, these people become fearful and stay right where they are, despite the deep down dissatisfaction.

And finally the third group of people are the top 2-3% ers. These people live and breathe success and find life stimulating, rewarding, fulfilling and they attack it with gusto. They look forward to each day and the adventures that lie ahead and they know that if challenging, they will grow, and if simple, they will excel.

Which group resonates with you, where you are right now?

Are you happy and fulfilled in your business, your job, personally, financially, physically?  What will it take for you to move out of one group, and into another?

Do you believe that is even possible?

I appreciate you and value your vulnerability!

A favorite author and mentor of mine, Michael Clouse, has created an inspiring way to change your mindset through his CD and article, The 38 Philosophies.

After five years of building a successful online Network Marketing Business, I have found that my actions without the right mindset are often futile.  When I first began, I was very negative and didn't believe that the success that I had achieved was deserved. I believe that I actually willed away many possible new business partners because of this.

Over the past year, I have begun reading books by Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, Seth Godin and listening to training by Doug Firebaugh, Michael Clouse and Dale Carnegie, just to name a few. My business continues to grow at an amazing pace but those new "family members" who have decided to partner with me, have a postive, visionary mindset.

I am attracting who I am becoming.

P.S. Make sure you include Mr. Clouse's ever so popular, "I like myself, I like myself, I like myself..." repeated many times.  Although it may feel embarrasing and sound annoying, if you don't like yourself, how will others know and like you?

Creating this mindset is truly inspiring and can be done so very simply.

Read and listen to a recording of YOU stating your favorite bible verses (Proverbs is chock full of business wisdom and inspiration), quotes, motivational sayings or fun rhymes about success.  You can create this using any recording system, like AudioAcrobat or FreeConferenceCall.com.

Commit to this process of reading and listening to this inspiration for a period of 90 days and I guarantee you will see a difference in how you look at things and who you attract.
Let me know how it goes. I want to celebrate with you!

To your success and beyond,

Kelly Wissink
